Shine Talent Training Policies

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Shine Talent Training (aka “STT”) is an offering by Shine Collective World LLC (aka “Shine Talent Success by Carey Lewis”) (hereinafter in these policies & terms listed as "Shine," “us,” or “we”). The student or students, or “you” may be used interchangeably, and in the case of a student under 18, this also refers to the legal guardian who is registering the student for STT.

We pride ourselves on providing an uplifting environment that promotes the growth of our students who are actors (and their parents). We welcome students of all backgrounds, faiths, ethnicities, genders, and lifestyles.

Our goal is to ensure that each student’s time with us is productive, and we hope that the student continues to be a part of our community for many years to come. Many of our grads become like family. We pride ourselves on being a safe space and a sounding board for industry questions.

While we do have specific policies in place, we’re open to discussing any unique situations our students may have. Please don't hesitate to contact us at hello@shine.us in advance of registration.

DISCLAIMER, CLASS CREDITS, NO REFUNDS

By checking the disclaimer box in the payment section during registration, you confirm that you have the necessary authorization to make payment for the requested services. You are also aware that Shine has a strict policy of no refunds for STT, whether in full or in part, for any reason, at any time, or for any service provided, unless expressly described in the rest of the terms and conditions below.

Why? Because once you’ve purchased your spot in a class, someone else can’t. In rare cases, with good reason, as deemed appropriate, necessary, and doable by a Shine admin team member, we will allow students to transfer their class registration to another student or to another session, workshop, or class.

If the student opts for installment plans, there are many ways to pay on our checkout page, including Affirm, Klarna, and more. If you need a custom plan, Shine will work with the student to customize the payments if it's reasonable and possible. The student is thus responsible for paying the full amount owed for any registered service, regardless of attendance or personal circumstances. Additionally, the student authorize Shine to charge the student’s credit card on file until the full amount owed is paid in full. Before registering for any requested service, please ensure that you’ve read and fully understood this paragraph. 

INTEGRITY OF THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

At Shine, we offer high-quality education for actors at all levels; whether you’re just starting out or are more experienced, there are offerings in place that will help you grow your skill to become more marketable, bookable, and/or signable.

In the event that a student's behavior or attitude disrupts the class or is found especially difficult by the instructor, we may suggest that the student has a private conversation with one of our administrative team members to discuss how the student can maintain a more professional demeanor.

If this behavior persists, we reserve the right to dismiss the student from class, either temporarily or permanently, in order to ensure that the learning environment remains productive without a refund. Please inform Shine prior to registration if the student has any neurological or behavioral conditions.

Because STT happens in a virtual environment, you MUST be in a quiet place, and we strongly advise you to be present, in a stationary place (not driving), and ON CAMERA every class you attend to make the environment more interactive and engaging for the instructor, the other students, and most importantly, for YOU, the same as if you were in an in-person classroom!

This being said, most classes are recorded, and you can check the individual class listing for specific recording policies. They vary per instructor and offering.

MENTAL OR EMOTIONAL DISCOMFORT

Personal growth is often mentally and emotionally challenging.

Sometimes, it can be triggering.

We coach with passion and deep motivation to help our students, but sometimes, it can feel like tough love. We have found that especially brittle or inflexible personalities have trouble in common coaching scenarios where the vast majority of students thrive. 

If the student is an especially sensitive or defensive person or is not what we call “coachable”– aka eager to advance, ready to listen, and take steps to improve– the student might consider another education vehicle than Shine. This being said it’s our goal to meet you where you are, totally new, to more advanced, and help you move forward at your own pace.

CLASS ENROLLMENT & AVAILABILITY
Though all of our classes are awesome, certain days, classes, or times can be more popular than others. As such, class times and structures are subject to change to ensure the most productive learning (and teaching) environment for all our students. If the student can’t make the new time work, the student can use the class credit for the class for up to 6 months on another STT class.

Classes do sell out. Reserve your spot immediately. If, for some reason, a class is sold out and you’d like to register for the next session, a waitlist will be offered. Class registration is always first come, first served. If, by some mistake, a class is oversold, in accordance with the instructor's guidelines and comfort level, the student has the right to roll registration to the next scheduled session, transfer to another class, or get a full refund.

PAYMENT PLANS

We’re always happy to help you get into a class that will serve you, no matter your situation. In Shine, we offer personalized payment plans according to your budget. To secure a spot, we require a non-refundable deposit from the student, after which we will automatically charge the credit card on file every 2 to 4 weeks with an agreed-upon fee. However, it's important to note that registering with a payment plan does not absolve the student of their obligation to pay the full amount. Regardless of attendance, all fees will be charged.

DISCOUNTS

We offer discounts in certain situations, to certain groups of people– for instance, currently enrolled STT students, Shine Collective Members, members of other Shine Programs, military or sibling/multiple family member discounts). Please enquire if you think you may fit into one of these categories.

MAKE-UP CLASSES OR WORKSHOPS

Classes: 

We know schedules can get difficult, and things come up. However, we do not offer makeup classes. We do, however, record our classes, which are kept in a private library where you and the other students in your session can access them with a password.

Shine does not prorate or discount classes to accommodate previously missed classes.

Workshops:

As workshops have a limited capacity, it is crucial to attend the scheduled session. There are no opportunities for makeup sessions. In the event that you are unable to attend, Shine requires written notice at least three business days prior to the workshop. We will make an effort to fill your seat and notify you accordingly. If successful, you may receive credit for a future workshop or a refund, which will be valid for up to six months from the original workshop date.

AGENT REFERRALS

Many actors come to Shine hoping to get signed with agents or managers. This does indeed happen for many of our Members. However, STT is not where that happens. STT is where you polish your talent and skills.

We don’t believe in promoting talent to reps before you’ve mastered your marketability and are 100% professionally polished and industry-savvy. We also offer this kind of training inside our Signature Program, called Shine Talent Accelerator & Review (aka STAR, which is 12 weeks of intensive coaching and personal mentorship, or there's a DIY version), and during the WOW Weekend (VIP Workshops + a Virtual Showcase). We NEVER guarantee representation, bookings, work, income, or success. We can give you tools, knowledge, polish, connections, and guidance, but the rest is up to you and your persistent and whole-hearted pursuit.
